vegan, it's not meh

Just so there are no mistakes regarding the title of this post. I'm a carnivore. I don't simply like meat - I love it. If there was a cow in here right now I'd bite a hunk out of it's ass and make a sandwich.

Ok, now that we got that straight.

Last week I was invited out to lunch with some coworkers, considering the day I was having some time away from the cubicle walls sounded like a good deal. This changed once I got in the car... turns out we were heading for the only vegan place within 30 miles. Actually, it may be further than 30 miles. I have no idea since I didn't even know this place existed.

Great, so now I'm thinking about all the shapes you can form soy into. I was imagining the menu would be:

  1. Cold Soy topped with spinach and fig leaves
  2. Warm Soy with bean curd dressing
  3. Soy with lawn clippings

I'm all into trying something new, but honestly I was just hoping they had bread and maybe I could stop for a burger on the way back.

I have no idea where this preconception came from. I still don't even know what the word means and I have a feeling if I googled it I still wouldn't.

But you know what? It was actually pretty good. Turns out they had a great grilled tortilla wrap. They even had a barbecue sandwich (this one was a little confusing for me).

To my local steakhouse - don't worry, I'll be back to eat my weight in beef soon enough.

Maybe next time I'll try the soy. Ha, just kidding.

Well, soy stuff varies a LOT in quality - and I say this as someone who actually likes tofu. It's a good thing they knew what they were doing with it.

I like to omit the lawn clippings from mine though! ;)

You're scaring me, dude. I think I would have been hungry again 5 minutes after getting back.

I felt weird the first time co-workers took me to the Vietnamese place to have Pho.

Dude, I went vegetarian over here in the Desert for 2.5 months just to say I did it.

The beef was hammered shoe leather, and I only had that once while here, and the chicken, I am not sure is really chicken so my streak could be a little longer. I have a hunch that some of the chicken is chicken flavored soy in the shape of chicken.

Don't worry the hunter, hunter in me is still in full effect and I will hunt as much as I can and consume massive ammounts of red meat upon my return.

@ lidian - I never knew you could specialize in soy. A soy artist. The lawn clippings would just add texture. Thanks for stopping by.

@ reforming geek - I'm telling ya, it was actually much better than I thought it would be.

@ richard - thank you for your service Richard, I'll buy you a steak when you get back. I used to like the cold dehydrated pork patties that came in the MRE packets... mmmmm. But my fav were the dehydrated strawberries, you trade for anything with those - jackpot!

Dude, I would have been just like you -- planning on getting a burger later. I don't think I could live without meat. I really don't think I ever want to. Nothing better than a big, juicy, tender steak -- yum. I think we'll be heading to the steakhouse tonight. mmmmmm :)

Dude, I've started eating vegan cheese. It's great on my 95% lean ground chuck burger...it still gives me my fix for cheese without the fat.

I absolutely love veggies. I love them especially when served with seafood and/or a prime rib steak med. rare thank you.

You can put soy/tofu (is it one in the same? I just don't know) right up there with Jell-O... I'm terrified of it. Although the thought of someone ordering a blue or rare (hell, anything less than well-done) steak freaks me out as well.
I think I'd best stick with chicken. Coincidence? I don't think so. :)

Sure it's okay, on the first try. Just imagine trying to eat that way every day after every day -- no ice cream, no mozzarella, no meringue. I'll pass.

@ angiess - no, I could not live without meat on the menu. I'm not even going to go there. Didn't make it to the top of the food chain for nothing.

@ ma fat woman - vegan cheese? They have such a thing? I really need to get out more.

@ don - mmmmm. I love my steak med rare as well. I usually get the veggies just to look like I'm going to eat them.

@ colleen - great question. Is Tofu and Soy the same thing? Dunno. Lets eat a burger and talk about it.

@feefifoto - not a chance in hell.

I am living proof that you do NOT have to eat veggies and will still live. I agree with you guys, I order veggies so it looks like I eat a well balanced diet. Vegan? Why would we want cows if not to eat them and drink their milk? Would they just wander around? Would they live in a zoo? WTF?

dude - A juicy burger for lunch, a yummy med rare steak for dinner. That's sme fine living.

Although, I must admit that tempeh cooked and seasoned properly is not at all bad. And portobello mushrooms give a nice meaty flavor to any vegan dish.

I find it interesting that the most ardent vegans seek ways to make their entrees resemble meat as much as possible.

Cheers

I was a little scared when I saw the title of this one...thought the gout had gone to your head!
I thought veggies were like a garnish that came out with your steak...you can actually eat that stuff...?

You must be a 'meatatarian'.

Once you commit, you have to stick with it!

just doesn't seem to be much point to a restaurant without meat to me.

They charge way too much for what you get when it's vegetarian...I KNOW what things cost in the grocery store - and ain't NOTHING that doesn't include MEAT that is worth full restaurant prices, y'ask me.

Yes, I am a carnivore. Also cheap.

first, bet on a horse' ass, then bite hunks out of a cow's ass...

Dad, what's with you and animals asses???

Have a nice day!

I once went totally vegetarian for a year. I ate well (due to the fact that I do things to vegetables that are probably illegal, but yummy) I even tried tofu, and nothing that I did to it, legal or not, could stop that disgusting texture.

I find that the lawn clipping go well with the ticks and sticks side dish.

I enjoy my red meat - the very best meat for the barbeque - Baby Seal. It's like veal but tastes more like the sea.....

Oh boy, you made me laugh out loud on this one. I would've been thinking the same things on the way to the vegan joint. No soy for me, Dude!
